MANDALA

Image
Yesterday the class finished work on the Mandala Project. Below are three examples of the variety of images made. Calli  Calli has created a very striking design with her bold use of large black and white shapes buffered with patterns and textures appearing as gray tonalities. Emma  Emma has established strong rhythms and movement by repeating and rotating triangular shapes. Her use of bold lines and dark shapes add weight and clarity to the design by containing the finely patterned areas of gray. Hannah Hannah has created a vey soft and delicate design. The overall tonal range is high key. The line work is very thin and fragile complemented with airy, cloud-like shapes and stippled value.

ARCHITECTURAL IMPROVISATION

Image
Bettina Schoefer Gordon Michelle Frydenlund Rio Dominguez Last night the class completed work on the Architectural Improvisation project. Bettina's drawing is a tumbling and swirling composition of architectural forms separated into linear and shape based elements. The light and dark areas are balanced with textural, gray values and patterns. Michelle's drawing exhibits a multilayered space of rectangular shapes of various sizes are characteristics. The dynamics of the composition are attributed to criss-crossing diagonals and high contrasting values. Rio's drawing exhibits a collage-like composition of disparate and similar objects as well as mark-making effects. The composition is balanced with repeating brick patterns and leaf shapes bound together with high contrast values and textures.

LINEAR PERSPECTIVE: Two-Point

Image
Yesterday the class made drawings of imaginary structures in two-point linear perspective. The very modern looking design above is well balanced with repeating textural elements as well as repeating shapes. The row of circular windows creates a dot to dot path leading the "eye" to the cones, up and down the zig-zag pipe and back around to the circles. A secondary movement has been established by the two upper rectangles relating to the same texture in the space at the bottom of the composition.
