LINEAR PERSPECTIVE: Two Point

The class continued working on their two point perspective drawings. We will critique these on Wednesday morning before moving onto the final project. Portfolios are due next Monday, Dec. 4. The list is above.

LINEAR PERSPECTIVE: Two Point

For the last two days the class has been working on Two Point Linear Perspective drawings. The above example is my demo drawing illustrating elements of this structure above eye level, below eye level and across it.

Last night the class began work on drawings employing Two-Point Linear Perspective. In two-point, there are no horizontal lines. All vertical lines are parallel to the left and right sides of the paper. All diagonals must recede either to the left vanishing point or the right. Students will have all of Thursday night's class to work on this project.

Yesterday the class made drawings of imaginary structures in two-point linear perspective. The very modern looking design above is well balanced with repeating textural elements as well as repeating shapes. The row of circular windows creates a dot to dot path leading the "eye" to the cones, up and down the zig-zag pipe and back around to the circles. A secondary movement has been established by the two upper rectangles relating to the same texture in the space at the bottom of the composition.

Carson Blodow On Thursday the class completed their two-point linear perspective drawings. Carson's drawing above illustrates the process with a well balanced design with repeating circles and cones throughout the composition. Notice how your eye is lead around the structure changing tempo as the edges move from exterior contours to more linear elements, such as the centrally located zig-zag. In addition, there is a secondary rhythm located in the repeated use of the invented textures.

Gwenny Williams Last Thursday students completed drawing their two-point perspective projects by adding tonalities and contours in ink. Gwenny's drawing above illustrates a zig-zag movement by way of the solid black shapes distributed across the structure. She has also used repetition in shapes (see the elliptical windows) and texture as well (see the parallel hatches and stippling). Gwenny has employed the principles of design very effectively.
